Activities for Children
There are endless
possibilities for children staying on a farm. There will be
farming activities taking place during the year that you are welcome
to watch and maybe help with. There are chickens to be fed and
eggs to collect, in spring there are lambs to feed and a paddock of
Bethan's 'best friends' to talk to. Of course there are the 220
acres of land with fields, streams and small wooded areas to explore
and fire the imagination.
The following are
just a few suggestions for trips out that you may enjoy as a family,
most are cheap and all offer value for money.
-
DAN
YR OGOF SHOW CAVES, just 4 miles down the round - A well established
attraction offering caves (with tableaux and commentaries),
dinosaurs, shire horses, a play barn, café plus lots of space
for running about - some small children can find the caves a bit
scary!Telephone - 01639 730801.
-
GRAIG Y NOS
COUNTRY PARK, just 4 miles down the road again - This country park is
run by the National Park Authority and it is a lovely place to have a
walk and picnic, play games. Ponds, woods and river are added
attractions. During school holidays the wardens run activity
afternoons for children which are well worth a visit - old clothes
are a good idea.
-
THE MOUNTAIN
CENTRE, Libanus - This is again run by the National Park and is an
information and activity centre. With trails, walks, and a
café this is very popular with many of our visitors.
-
BRECON LEISURE
CENTRE, Brecon - For those wet days, there is both a big and a small
pool with a flume. Other activities include Ten Pin Bowling, a
Gym, Green Bowls and squash and to relax a sauna and solarium.
There is also a café and during the school holidays sports
activities are held for children of all ages.
-
BRECON
MOUNTAIN RAILWAY, nr Merthyr Tydfil - This is a small old railway
line, there is a platform approximately half-way along the line where
you can get out and have a picnic. Great views and café
at main station. Can be cold in bad weather.
-
LLANGORSE RIDING
AND ROPE CENTRE, Llangorse - This centre caters for riders of all
abilities, including disabled, and can arrange treks ranging from an
hour to all day. The Rope Centre is purpose built and has fully
qualified instructors to help all ages and abilities. Snacks
are available and there are great views of the lake. It is best
to telephone and book an activity. Telephone 01874 658272.
-
BRECKNOCK
MUSEUM AND THE SOUTH WALES BORDERERS MUSEUM, Brecon - Both museums
are very interesting the first showing aspects of local history,
including re-enactment of court proceedings as this was a court house
for many years. The latter museum is particularly appealing to
those connected with the Regiment or with an interest in the Zulu Wars.
Information on
these and many other attractions and activities may be found in the
information files in each cottage.
