CERTIFICATION

In keeping with our keeping things local and in touch policy we have recently changed our certification body to the Welsh Scheme. We are inspected to the same high standards but feel that the organization is in touch with both our and the consumers needs.

The Farm

Aberhyddnant is a family run, 220 acre organic hill farm in Crai producing quality lamb, pork, beef and free-range eggs whilst helping to enhance the environment. All our animals are reared to strict organic standards where welfare is the highest priority.  We have a whole farm envirnmental policy under the Tir Gofal scheme, which, combined with our organic principles, maintains the fertility of the land and creates a variety of wildlif habitats.

We welcome visitors to the farm by prior arrangement and are happy to spend time explaining how we work.  There is also a farm trail for those with more time to spare.

Organic Food and Produce is available to visitors to Aberhyddnant Farm. Click Here for more information

School Visits are very welcome by appointment. Please read the notes below and contact us for our Information Sheet

WOOFers  WELCOME

We joined the WOOF group a few months ago as a host and on 2nd March we welcomed our first Woofers to the farm - Kim and Dave -  They were GREAT.  We were totally in chaos as we had just opened the shop but they joined in and were very, very helpful -  THANK YOU.

If there are any more interested poeple out there please give us a ring we are rushed off our feet lambing and in the shop and would love some help on the farm and in the garden where we hope to grow some veg for the shop and Tea Room.

FARM LIVESTOCK
The farm is home to a herd of 20 Murray Grey cattle and a flock of 300 Texel cross Cheviot sheep.  We both lamb and calve in March and April giving the stock the maximum amount of time to graze the lush organic pastures before winter sets in.

We have diversified into laying hens and pigs and our Bovans Nera and Black Rock hens seem well suited to the Crai weather.  They live in small groups within our organic rotation and all the birds look extremely happy in their fox proof encloses that give them plenty of freedom to roam.

Our few pigs, Gloucester Old Spot and Welsh, have adapted well to the farm and love to root up the fields encourageing a range of birds to feast on the uncovered insets.

These pigs and the eggs form the basis of our major new project 'Holiday Hampers' providing local and organic food to visitors to the Brecon Beacons, delivered to their cottages to enjoy during their stay.

The web site for this is now live at www.craivalleyproduce.co.uk.

Please take a look and let us know what you think.

Farm Visits

We welcome any schools or colleges by prior arrangement and are willing to discuss various aspects of farming and the environment.Unfortunately we can not accept coaches so mini buses are the order of the day.

School visits are increasingly popular and the animals certainly have a good time. This is Briony (Sheep) entertaining some children from a local primary school.

Congratulations to Sennybridge Schoolwho have been working hard for their Eco Schools Award - surveying and clearing ponds, encourageing recycling by asking the council to provide a recycle bin at school and saving energy. They have easily achieved SILVER and are looking towards the coverted Green Flag - GOOD LUCK.
